PETALING JAYA: A vehicle drove into St Ignatius Church late Friday, causing damage to some of the church's property before hitting a tree in the compound.
In a statement to parishioners, parish priest Fr Lawrence Ng said the incident happened about 11.45pm.
He said a vehicle drove through the St Ignatius Church gates and damaged several tables and chairs that were in the covered car park area before ramming into a tree.
The driver, he said, appeared unhurt.
Police and the Fire and Rescue Department were called and the former instructed that the driver be sent to hospital for checks.
Ng said she had lodged a police report and was assured that investigations would be carried out.
"In the meantime, I urge all of you (parishioners) not to speculate or disseminate any other information of the incident on social media or in any other form. We shall leave it to the authorities to take the appropriate action," he said.
