Zayn Rayyan case: Parents brought to court amid heavy police presence

PETALING JAYA: The parents of murdered autistic boy, Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, were seen entering the court complex this morning under heavy police escort at 9.12am.

Represented by counsels Fahmi Abd Moin and Mahmud Jumaat, the couple were brought in for court proceedings. They are expected to be charged today. Fahmi confirmed this earlier, indicating that both parents would face formal charges.

Yesterday, the counsels objected to the police's application under Section 26(1) of the Evidence Act to record a guilty plea from the mother, before a magistrate.

Today marks the conclusion of the remand order against the couple, whose son was found dead near a river, near their home in Damansara Damai, on Dec 6, last year.

The magistrate's court had earlier granted a seven-day remand order on June 1, which was subsequently extended by six more days.

A post-mortem on Zayn Rayyan confirmed that he had been murdered, revealing injuries to his neck and body.
