PETALING JAYA: The parents of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, an autistic boy who tragically died, are currently receiving psychological treatment due to the emotional distress they have been experiencing, says lawyer Mahmud Jumaat.
Mahmud, representing the mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, said that both Ismanira and her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, are undergoing treatment to manage their depression.
"I believe the depression had already occurred before their remand. Any family who loses a loved one will definitely experience depression," Mahmud explained at a press conference at the Petaling Jaya Court Complex today.
He added, "From the beginning of the case, Zayn Rayyan's parents have been receiving treatment, especially since they have another autistic child, Mateen."
Regarding their current state, Mahmud said that the couple felt relieved after today's proceedings.
"Alhamdulillah, they are happy and satisfied with the police investigation and legal proceedings. Their hope is the same as the public's, which is to see justice for Zayn Rayyan," he said.
Earlier, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira were charged in the Sessions Court with neglect, which allegedly led to physical injuries to their six-year-old son last year. Both pleaded not guilty before Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh.
Previously, the couple had been remanded for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code following their arrest in Puncak Alam on May 31.
On Dec 6 last year, Zayn was found dead in a stream near Idaman Apartment in Damansara Damai around 10pm. His body was discovered by a group of residents approximately 200 metres from his residential block after he was reported missing.
