Resorts World Genting says no casualties from fire at SkyAvenue [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Resorts World Genting (RWG) said no casualties or injuries were reported from the 4.30pm fire this evening at SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands.

On its official website today, RWG said all other areas at the resort are not affected by the fire.

"Evacuation was carried out immediately to ensure members of the public were out of harm's way. Our fire units responded promptly to extinguish the fire.We continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the situation progresses," it said.

Several images and videos of a fire at the indoor theme park at SkyAvenue with thick black plumes of smoke billowing into the sky have gone viral on social media.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department deputy director (operations) Ismail Abdul Ghani said the fire broke out on the second floor of the theme park before it spread to the fourth floor.

The Genting Highlands fire and rescue station was alerted to the blaze at 4.55pm before the first fire engine arrived at the scene five minutes later.

Sixteen firemen from the Genting Highlands fire station along with Janda Baik volunteer firefighters rushed to the scene.
