KUALA TERENGGANU: A man who allegedly drove a car recklessly while holding a gun-like object near Jalan Sultan Mahmud here yesterday has been arrested.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the suspect, 37, was detained by the roadside in Kampung Gong Tok Nasek at 10.20pm on the same day.
Azli said police had seized several items belonging to the suspect, as well as the white Proton Persona car he was driving.
He said that based on initial investigations, the suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine, had a criminal record involving offences related to trespassing and drug abuse.
Azli said that the other items seized were a wooden sword measuring 102cm, a 76 cm-long scabbard, a fake gun and its "magazine".
"Further investigations found that the pistol was fake. The case is being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code and Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960," he said.
Previously, a video of an individual holding a gun-like object while driving a white sedan recklessly went viral on Facebook.
The car was seen entering and exiting the opposite lane by crossing the road divider.
The video was uploaded with a caption claiming that a security guard at a school here was shot in the stomach by the driver, who was said to be on the run with a child.
