Gun-wielding man a police

GEORGE TOWN: Police have confirmed that the man seen wielding a gun in a video while apprehending another individual is a police officer.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said police came across a 53-second video footage of the incident yesterday, which was uploaded by an X user.

It showed a man, who identified himself as a police officer, apprehending another while wielding a gun.

"Checks revealed the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon in Relau here.

"We confirmed that the man in the video footage is a policeman from the state police contingent's Criminal Investigation department.

"The policeman was apprehending a man, believed to be involved in obstructing a civil servant carrying out his duty and using criminal force.

"The suspect acted aggressively and tried to flee as well as attempted to run over a policeman at the scene. We managed to apprehend the suspect," he said today.

Razlam said further checks on the suspect led to the recovery of a packet of drugs, believed to be heroin weighing about 10.35 grams.

On Tuesday morning, the same suspect had knocked into a police constable while fleeing arrest.

The incident caused the constable to sustain injuries on several parts of his body, including head.

Police have urged people not to speculate and spread the video footage.
