JASIN: The father of the suspect detained in the Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah murder investigation expressed his love for his son but said that the man must face the consequences of his actions.
"Who doesn't love their child? To me, there's nothing strange about his behavior.
"I never taught him anything wrong. What happened is his own doing; if he's brave enough to do it, he has to be brave enough to bear the consequences," said the suspect's father, a 64-year-old farmer, at his home in Sungai Rambai this afternoon.
Describing his son as disciplined and jovial, the father said that he must remain strong and continue working despite the ordeal.
"Fate decides everything. What can I do? This didn't happen right in front of me, and I couldn't stop it," he said.
The father confirmed that his daughter-in-law and eight-month-old grandchild are in good condition.
"I was informed that last night, the police took my son to his home in Bukit Katil, and he managed to make a video call to me.
"The police also checked and took his wife's mobile phone for investigation, including the messages sent by the victim," he said, adding that the family has appointed a lawyer to represent the suspect during the investigation and upcoming trial.
The father shared that his son, the eighth of ten siblings, shares his interest in gardening and is also active in gardening at the police station where he works in Perak.
"My son roams all over the place, including the Orang Asli village, and buys me banana tree seedlings.
"When he's on leave, our yard will be clean, and he will scold his siblings if he sees trash or clutter around the house," he added, noting that the suspect was particularly close to his late mother, who passed away last Ramadan.
Nur Farah Kartini, 25, was reported missing after delivering a rental car to a customer on July 10.
Her body was found near Felda Gedangsa at around 6pm on Monday.
