Parents fearful after abduction of two children in Jeram

KUALA SELANGOR: Parents living at a neighbourhood here are living in fear after two children were abducted by a man in a dark-coloured Perodua Bezza.

The two children were abducted on Friday evening while they were playing outside their house. About an hour later they were found in an adjacent neighbourhood, unhurt.

The victims' aunt, Nur Azura Mohammad Wazir, 37, said her niece, Kayla Keysha Khaidil Khalid, 8, was playing with two of her friends near their house when a young man approached the children at Taman Ikan Emas.

"The man asked them to get in his car and two of the children agreed and followed him.

"The child who did not follow the man informed family members that they (the two friends) had followed an unknown man," she said when contacted on Saturday.

Nur Azura said she panicked and immediately informed the Jeram police station about the incident.

"The two children were found by members of the public as they were walking home.

"Kayla claims that the man bought them drinks and and took them to his house. He changed his clothes at his house," she said, adding that the man then dropped the children off at another nearby neighbourhood.

She said both children claimed that the man did not do anything to them while they were with him.

She claimed this was not the first time such an incident occurred in the neighbourhood.

"In April, another child was also taken in a dark Perodua Bezza in the evening before they were found several hours later.

"We are worried to let our children to go out and play now.

"I will not allow my children to play outside now that these incidents have occurred," she said.

District acting police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Ambia Nordin said they received a report on the incident.

"The victims' mother lodged a report that two of her children aged six and eight had been abducted by a man driving a black Perodua Bezza car.

"They were playing along Jalan Ikan Emas 2, Taman Ikan Emas , Jeram at around 6.30pm on Friday," he said in a statement today.

He said the incident also went viral on social media.

"An investigation was immediately launched and the victims who were reported missing were found at around 7.45pm near their house at Taman Kelisa.

"The victims were unhurt in the incident," he said, adding that they were now looking for the suspect involved in this case.

He said they were also investigating the motive for the suspect abducting the children for an hour before dropping them off.

"The case is being investigated under Section 369 of the Penal Code and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act for for child abduction and exposing a child to danger so as to cause them physical or emotional injury.

"We urge the public especially parents to watch their children as they play outside of the home in order to avoid untoward incidents from occurring," he said.
