KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu's Badrul Hisham Shaharin, commonly known as Chegubard, has been arrested, his lawyer, Rafique Rashid has confirmed.
Rafique said his client was arrested in connection to a police probe into allegations of corruption and bribery involving senior Royal Malaysian Navy officers.
Badrul, a member of Bersatu's information committee, was detained at around 3pm at the Putrajaya police headquarters.
"The police are investigating him for giving false information under Section 203A of the Penal Code, wrongful communication under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act 1972, and misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," Rafique told the New Straits Times.
He added that Badrul is expected to be charged at the Putrajaya Magistrates Court at 9am tomorrow.
Yesterday, Badrul claimed that police raided his house on Friday while he was away.
He said the raid followed his Facebook posting that he possessed classified documents.
In April this year, Bardul was charged with publishing seditious material on social media regarding a purported casino project in Forest City, Johor.
Reports on the supposed casino have since been refuted.
