SEREMBAN: Political activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, or better known as Chegu Bard, won the Bersatu Port Dickson division chief position in a party election last night.
Badrul Hisham defeated Bersatu Linggi branch chief Datuk Zamri Md Said in a one-on-one contest.
The Bersatu Telok Kemang branch deputy chief described his victory as a democratic process to strengthen the party in Port Dickson and Negri Sembilan.
"This victory is a responsibility, not for personal gain, but for all Bersatu members in the Port Dickson division.
"No one wins entirely and no one loses completely. It is time for all members to work towards strengthening the party, which should function as one big family.
"The time has come for us to establish Bersatu as a champion of the people's issues, especially in Port Dickson and Negri Sembilan," he said today.
The election, attended by 165 delegates, also saw Akklil Aizat Othman being elected the party's Port Dickson division deputy chief, and Mohd Shuhazlan Ali securing the vice-chief's role.
Badrul Hisham is also running for a seat in the party's supreme leadership council.
Meanwhile, Bersatu Batang Benar branch chief Wan Nasry Ahmad won the Bersatu Seremban division chief's post.
He defeated three others, namely Nilai branch chief Mohd Herman Hassan, Ampangan branch chief Aslam Nawabdin and Kampung Gebok member Ahmad Aidy Talib.
The same position in the Kuala Pilah division was won by Tengkek branch chief Mohd Zuhaimi Md Yusof.
Four other divisions in Negri Sembilan — Jempol, Rembau, Rasah and Jelebu — saw all Bersatu division chief candidates winning with no contest, while the Tampin division was ineligible to hold a contest.
