[UPDATED] Viral videos lead to arrests in brutal helmet attack on woman

 

KAJANG: Two men with extensive criminal and drug records have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman with a helmet.

Following the assault which allegedly occurred at Taman Saujana Utama, one of the suspects fled the scene in a reckless manner in a white Honda car, colliding with several vehicles in the process at Batu 9, Cheras.

The incident was captured in two viral videos circulating on social media.

One video shows an individual aggressively approaching the Honda car as screams and cries are heard, with a woman's voice threatening, "Before I break this car, you let go..." just before the footage ends. 

The second video depicts the same vehicle driving erratically, striking tables, chairs, and parked cars, while being pursued by a police motorcycle unit and another man on a bike.

Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that the assault occurred at Taman Saujana Utama around 6pm on July 28. 

He said the police initially detected two videos on July 29 of a white Honda City driving in a reckless way and hitting several vehicles.

"Based on our investigations, we have linked two men to the assault of a 29-year-old woman at Taman Saujana Utama at around 6pm on July 28.

"We believe at least one of the men involved in the assault fled the scene after beating the 29-year-old woman with a helmet at Taman Saujana Utama," he said in a statement today.

He said two police reports had been lodged over the incident.

"We have opened investigations for driving in a reckless manner which could endanger the lives of others under Section 279 of the Penal Code and Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon.

"One of the suspects in this case is the victim's boyfriend.

The two suspects, aged 25 and 26, have 12 and 22 criminal and drug records respectively.

He said they had been remanded for six days to assist with further investigations.
