Cops arrest homeless man over brick-throwing incident near monorail station

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a homeless man on suspicion of throwing bricks at a car near the Imbi monorail station after the incident went viral on social media.

Dang Wangi acting police chief Superintendent Nuzulan Mohd Din said the suspect was arrested after the police received a report from the car owner at 5pm yesterday.

The suspect, he said, was arrested near the monorail station at 5.30pm today.

"Police will obtain a remand order against the suspect tomorrow," he said.

Nuzulan added that the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief resulting in loss or damage.

Yesterday, a woman posted on Facebook about her boyfriend's car window being shattered by a brick thrown by an unknown man from the overhead bridge at a monorail station on Jalan Imbi.

Hui Min Chia said the incident occurred between 12.30pm and 1.30 pm on Friday.

In her post, the woman claimed that she and her boyfriend were driving a Honda Insight when they were startled by a loud bang from the back of the car.

Upon checking, they discovered that the rear window was shattered and a rock was found on the passenger seat.

"Looking around, we saw a man throwing bricks from the monorail station's overhead bridge. My boyfriend called the police to report the incident," she said.
