Footballer whips out 'kerambit' in argument during match

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for a footballer who allegedly brandished a "kerambit" in a heated football match.

Wangsa Maju police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim Ismail said the incident happened on Sunday at the KLFA Football Centre, Desa Melati.

Lazim said during the match, an argument broke out between both teams, and one player allegedly brought a sharp weapon onto the field.

"We received a report from a 23-year-old man (on the incident) today," he said in a statement, adding the complainant said that it was a player from the opposing team who brandished the kerambit.

The case is being probed under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for carrying offensive weapons in a public place.

"Efforts are underway to identify the suspect involved," he said adding that no one was hurt in the incident.
