BALIK PULAU: Nine men, including eight foreign nationals, have been detained in connection with the murder of a colleague at a Thai restaurant in Balik Pulau early this morning.
State police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad confirmed the arrests, noting that the suspects, aged between 20 and 35, were apprehended following the discovery of the victim's body with stab wounds.
"The victim was found unconscious with stab wounds around 3.15am," he said.
"It is believed that he was involved in a confrontation with his colleagues at the restaurant. We swiftly launched Operation Kejam Genting, which led to the arrest of the nine individuals."
The suspects include one local resident and eight foreign nationals who worked together at the restaurant.
They have been remanded for a week until Aug 11 to facilitate further investigation.
"Based on our initial investigation, the motive appears to be related to dissatisfaction among the colleagues.
"We are continuing our investigation to fully understand the circumstances leading to this tragic event," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
