JOHOR BARU: Thirteen Indonesian men who were employed at a restaurant which went viral online for its food, were detained in an immigration raid yesterday (Nov 13).
The foreigners were suspected of misusing their social visit passes by gaining illegal employment at the popular restaurant in Taman Setia Tropika, here.
Johor Immigration director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus, said the 1.20pm operation, codenamed Ops Selera, was done following public complaints on the suspected illegal workers.
He said the foreigners, aged between 20 and 32, were suspected of working illegally under social visit passes.
Meanwhile in Larkin, immigration officers detained a Pakistani man, 22, who was peddling fruits from table to table at a restaurant.
A Chinese national 40, and two Myanmar nationals including a woman, were also detained at a non-halal restaurant after they failed to produce their work permits.
Rusdi said all 17 foreigners were detained for misusing their social visit passes and for overstaying.
