Young man allegedly sodomised while trying to find work at a furniture shop

MELAKA: A young man's hopes of finding a job to help his family turned into a tragedy when he was allegedly raped by a foreign man in a furniture store, here, yesterday.

The incident happened at about 11.30am when the 22-year-old victim came to a furniture store in Tanjung Minyak, here.

Melaka police chief Datuk Zainol Samah said the victim lodged a police report at the Tanjung Minyak police station at 2.03pm yesterday.

He said the victim, who came to the furniture store by himself, then asked a Pakistani man who was also the store's caretaker before being invited upstairs, purportedly to meet a manager.

"As soon as the complainant went upstairs, he found that there was no one there, and it was just furniture storage.

"The victim claimed that the suspect suddenly pulled the complainant's hand and dragged him into a small room upstairs.

"The suspect then forcibly opened the complainant's pants and kissed several parts of the complainant's body, including the neck and legs, before sodomising him.

"The victim tried to escape but the suspect held him before he screamed and managed to run away," he said in a statement here.

Zainol said the complainant is the youngest of two brothers, had no job, was still single and had completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exam.

The suspect, who is also a 36-year-old salesman, had been detained at the shop on the same day at 6.30pm by officers and detectives from the Sexual, Women and Children Crime Investigation Division (D11), Criminal Investigation Department and the state contingent police headquarters.

"The initial urine screening test on the suspect was negative. The case is being investigated under Section 377C of the Penal Code," he said.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman granted a five-day remand for the suspect, starting today until Aug 11, to facilitate the investigation at the request of the investigating officer to complete the case.
