Police investigate viral road rage incident on North-South Expressway

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have launched an investigation into a recent road rage incident that has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred along the North-South Expressway near Bidor.

A video, believed to be captured by a dashcam, shows a Toyota MPV stopped in front of another vehicle on the highway with its hazard lights flashing.

In the footage, a man dressed in a black round-neck t-shirt and pants exits the Toyota and approaches the car behind it.

As the situation escalates, two additional men from the Toyota also approach the vehicle.

Shouting can be heard, with the men directing expletives at a woman believed to be the driver of the car behind.

The man is heard accusing the woman of cutting them off on the road.

The video captures several instances of shouting and a slapping sound before the men return to their Toyota.

One of the men is seen striking the car's bonnet before walking away.

The video, which has widely circulated online, also includes an image of a woman with a bruised eye.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri confirmed the incident, saying that it occurred around 2.30pm on July 31 at KM342.4 of the North-South Expressway.

He said that the Tapah police headquarters was investigating the case under Section 506 and Section 323 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt, respectively.

The primary suspect was arrested on Aug 1 to aid in the investigation.

Mohd Yusri advised motorists to remain patient and courteous, urging them to avoid escalating conflicts.

"We encourage drivers to keep their composure and resolve disputes calmly. Those found intentionally violating the law will face strict consequences," he said.
