KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a contractor suspected of submitting false claims related to the supply of corporate attire.
The claims, involving approximately RM12,500, were intended for a district education office in the state.
According to MACC, the male suspect, in his 40s, was arrested around 3pm today while he was providing a statement at the Sabah MACC office.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged offence occurred in 2023. The suspect is believed to have submitted false claims for corporate attire worth about RM12,500, although the actual supply cost was only approximately RM4,500," it said in a statement today.
The investigation also led to the seizure of approximately RM8,000 in cash, suspected to be funds from the unfulfilled supply. The cash was reportedly handed over by the suspect to a district education officer at the end of 2023.
Meanwhile, Sabah MACC Director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest, saying: "We are investigating this case under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009."
