SHAH ALAM: A jobless man was charged at the magistrate's court today with committing mischief and damaging a 37-year-old woman's car at the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) last week.
G. Nagendaran, 32, pleaded not guilty before magistrate Sasha Diana Sabtu.
He was accused of damaging the glass of a Toyota Estima causing losses of about RM100.
The offence was committed at 1am in front of the Petron petrol station (east direction) along Kesas in Subang Jaya on Aug 7.
The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a jail term not less than one year and not more than five years; with a fine; or both upon conviction.
He was also charged with administering methamphetamine into his body at about 5pm in the toilet of the USJ 8 police station, Subang Jaya district police headquarters the next day. (Aug 8).
The charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act read with Section 38B carries a fine not more than RM5,000 or a jail term not more than two years upon conviction.
Section 38B provides police supervision for a period not more than three years after serving the jail sentence.
Deputy public prosecutor Annur Athirah Amran offered a bail of RM9,000 with one surety for both offences.
Defence lawyer Partiben Madurai Veeran pleaded for a lower bail for his client, a father of two.
"He and his wife have children aged two and a newborn who is just a week old.
"He is also caring for his aged parents," he said.
The court set bail at RM2,800 with one surety and Nov 12 for mention.
Earlier, Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said a suspect who allegedly swung a stick and damaged a vehicle will be charged committing mischief and causing damage.
Another suspect, he said, will be released and made a prosecution witness.
It was reported that police arrested four people believed to be involved in an attempted robbery in front of a petrol station along Kesas.
A 46-second dashcam recording of the incident showed the victim driving out of the petrol station at night when another car passed it.
Shortly after, a motorcyclist rode out of another petrol station and blocked the victim's vehicle.
The rider got off the motorcycle and approached the other vehicle, which was parked in front of it, opening the back door of the vehicle and grabbing an object.
He then ran towards the complainant's vehicle as it tried to flee the scene.
Other people were also seen getting out of the parked car.
