KANGAR: The 17-year-old is known as the "King of Batu Pahat" among his peers, but he will have to abdicate his "throne" now after being nabbed by police for a long list of traffic violations.
Riding without a licence or a crash helmet, while pulling dangerous stunts on an uninsured, heavily-modified motorcycle are just some of the offences he has been nabbed for.
You can list down all traffic violations under the law and the Form 5 student has probably ticked all the boxes.
Kangar police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the teenager was caught red-handed after pulling a wheelie stunt along a 100m stretch of Jalan Sungai Batu Pahat.
"During the arrest, the teenager also committed other traffic offences including riding without a licence, a motorcycle not having a registration plate, illegal exhaust modification and not having side mirrors.
"We also found out that his motorcycle's structure and parts were modified, did not have a road tax and had faulty brakes. All the offences not only pose risks to the teenager but also other road users," he said in a statement today.
Yusharifuddin said police had booked the teenager for all the traffic offences he had committed.
"He is staring at up to five years' imprisonment and fine of up to RM15,000 if found guilty. We wish to advise motorcyclists to stop all illegal racing activity. Parents and legal guardians should monitor their children's movements and not allow them to get involved in such activities," he said.
He warned parents and legal guardians that they too could be fined under Section 26(1)(B) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for allowing children to ride motorcycles without a valid licence.
