Man seriously injured in Perak slashing incident

TAIPING: A man, 29, was seriously injured after being slashed by a person wielding a parang here yesterday.

Taiping district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Nasir Ismail said police received a report about the attack from the victim's wife at 7.20pm.

"A team from the district Criminal Investigation Department was immediately alerted to the incident and launched an operation to track down the suspect," he said, adding that the male individual was arrested in less than 24 hours in the district.

"Preliminary investigation showed that the motive behind the attack was jealousy. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt to the victim.

"If found guilty, the suspect can be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and can be fined and caned," he said.
