Infant found with umbilical cord still attached in Machang

MACHANG: A newborn baby boy with his umbilical cord still attached, was found abandoned in Kampung Sungai Bedal near Temangan yesterday.

The baby was found at the back of a house by a man. He then lodged a police report at Temangan police station today.

Machang police chief, Superintendent Ahmad Shafiki Hussin said police received the report at 10.45am.

Following the report, he said a police party was sent to the scene to investigate the case.

"In the report, the man claimed that the baby belonged to her adopted daughter because yesterday, he saw the adopted daughter, in her 20s, lying in pain with blood coming out of her private part.

"She also admitted to her foster father that she just delivered the baby," he said.

He added the baby was sent to Sultan Ismail Petra hospital in Kuala Krai for further treatment.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 317 of Penal Code for abandoning a child.
