Suspected smuggler nabbed with 60 boxes of frozen chicken

PASIR MAS: A suspected smuggler was arrested when he was found in possession of more than 60 boxes of frozen chicken worth about RM10,000 yesterday.

General Operations Force Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the man was detained here by a GOF team from the Eighth Battalion.

He said the team was conducting an operation codenamed Op Taring when they stopped a passing vehicle for inspection about 8.50am.

"After stopping the vehicle for inspection, the GOF members found more than 60 boxes containing frozen chicken which was believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand. They then arrested the 28-year-old man," he said in a statement.

Nik Ros Azhan said initial investigations revealed that the man was hired to transport the frozen chicken from the border area to its destination.

"We suspect the frozen chicken was for distribution especially in the Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas areas," he added.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 4(1) of Food Act 1983.
