ALOR STAR: Police seized 100kg of compressed cannabis following the arrest of a trafficker at a homestay in Taman Aman here last week.
Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh said the 4.30pm raid on June 18 was carried out by the Kuala Muda district police Narcotic Crime Investigation Department.
He said the team had arrested the 46-year-old trafficker and found the drugs upon raiding the homestay.
"Upon inspection, the team found a plastic containing dried leaves suspected to be ganja weighing 8.2g and a plastic containing methamphetamine weighing 1.13g.
"The team then found 100 compressed slabs containing dried leaves believed to be ganja with a total weight of 100.2kg hidden in a closet.
"The total street value of the drugs seized is estimated at RM250,200," he told reporters at the state police headquarters.
Fisol said police had also seized a Benelli TNT motorcycle worth RM8,000 and RM100 cash from the man who hailed from Kuala Nerang.
"Based on investigations, the man had rented the homestay for four days to be used as a transit point to store the drugs.
"We believe he had obtained the drug supply from a neighbouring country," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking.
