ALOR STAR: Police seized 28 blocks of cannabis in raids on Sunday and Monday following the arrest of two suspected drug dealers.
Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the cannabis was seized by the same team that detained the two men at a house in Gunong, near here, on Sunday.
"Following the arrest of the two men, aged 22 and 32, police seized 24 blocks of dried herb, believed to be cannabis, weighing 24.922g each, at a house in Taman Lumba Kuda.
"Investigations led police to find four more blocks of compressed cannabis weighing 3.976g each in Gunong the next day.
"The value of the seizure is about RM90,000," she said at a press conference at the Kota Setar district police headquarters today.
Siti Nor Salawati said the cannabis is believed to have been brought in from a neighbouring country.
She said the suspects tested positive for drugs.
"The suspects are acquainted. The house in Taman Lumba Kuda is believed to be a transit point for the drugs.
"Police suspect the cannabis was supposed to be packed into sacks for distribution in Kota Setar. It can go to 58,000 drug users."
She said one of the suspects is believed to be a farmer and the other is unemployed.
She said the suspects were believed to have gotten involved with a syndicate since the beginning of the year.
The suspects have been remanded for seven days until July 28.
