TUMPAT: A man who was wanted by the police including for involving in smuggling of illegal immigrants, was arrested by the police last night (Sept 18).
The suspect was detained by members of the General Operations Force (GOF) in Pengkalan Kubor.
GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the 25-year-old man was detained at Kampung Telaga Lanas about midnight.
"A GOF team from the Ninth Battalion was conducting its Op Taring Wawasan when spotted the suspect acting suspiciously.
"After checking on his identity, police discovered that the man was in the police's wanted list.
"He had been sought by the police for involving in four crime cases such as attempting murder and smuggling of illegal immigrants," he added.
He said the man has been handed over to Tumpat police for further action.
It is learnt that the suspect who is a local, was among those wanted by the police for involving in the smuggling of undocumented migrants for several years.
The suspect was also believed to be a member of human trafficking syndicate actively along Kelantan/Thai border.
