'Doctors' arrested in raids on illegal foreigner clinics

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Bangladeshis were arrested at separate clinics in the federal capital for posing as doctors.

The clinics, which catered mainly to foreigners, were raided in a joint operation, codenamed Op Mahir, conducted by the Immigration Department and the Health Ministry's Pharmaceutical Services Division.

According to TV3, in the first raid, a 24-year-old was arrested while treating a patient, who was also a foreigner.

The other foreigner was nabbed in a clinic located not far from the first.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspects used tourism service premises to conceal the illegal activity.

Patients would contact them for treatment and they were charged between RM50 and RM80 for services.

The raiding party also seized various types of medication which were believed to have been smuggled into the country.
