Man nabbed for allegedly hurling profanities at police

GEORGE TOWN: A 25-year-old motorcyclist was arrested for allegedly hurling verbal abuses at a traffic policeman for issuing him with a summons.

Acting Northeast police chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake said the man was picked up in Taman Terubong Jaya, Air Itam here about 10.30pm yesterday.

He said police came across a video footage on WhatsApp this evening, showing a motorcyclist scolding a traffic policeman with vulgarities due to dissatisfaction after being issued with a summons.

"We can confirm that a police report has been lodged by the traffic policeman yesterday.

"The case is being probed under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

"Investigations revealed the incident happened yesterday evening near Lebuhraya Thean Teik in Air Itam. A summons has been issued to the motorcyclist for beating the red light.

"Investigation also led to the arrest of the local man last night. He has been remanded for three days to assist investigations," he said.

Lee said the investigation paper would be wrapped up and referred to the deputy public prosecutor for possible prosecution.

"We want to advise road users to adhere to traffic rules at all times," he added.
