GOF seizes RM525,000 worth of vapes in Tumpat

TUMPAT: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized about 5,000 units of electronic cigarettes, valued at RM525,000, in Kampung Bendang Pak Yong, yesterday.

However, no arrests were made in the operation.

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said a GOF team from the 9th Battalion spotted a van behind a house in the village around 1pm.

"Upon checking, they discovered the vapes inside the van. The items are believed to have been smuggled into the state through illegal jetties along the border," he said in a statement.

Ros Azhan added that initial investigations suggest the vapes were meant for local distribution.

In a separate operation, a GOF team from the 7th Battalion seized 210 litres of petrol at an illegal jetty in Mat Yassin, around 10am yesterday. The petrol, worth RM430, was believed to be bound for Thailand.

"No arrests were made, as the smugglers fled to Thailand upon seeing the officers," he added.
