KUALA LUMPUR: A 12-year-old girl who was reported missing after she went to retrieve food from a car parked at a flat in Klang on Tuesday has been found safe.
Police investigations showed that Madrafataha Indal Bangsawan, who was found safe at 5.30pm yesterday, may have been kidnapped.
South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said six people including two women, aged between 13 and 23, were arrested to facilitate police investigations into the case.
"Footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at nearby premises showed the child was seen walking and getting into a black (Perodua) Myvi, in which, she is believed to have been kidnapped.
"As such, the case has been reclassified under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping a child from lawful guardianship, which carries the maximum seven years' jail and a fine," he said in a statement today.
Acting on information, police arrested the suspects from several locations in Segambut Dalam, Setia Alam and Pandamaran during an operation which started at 5pm on Oct 12.
"Checks showed one of the suspects has a prior criminal record. Checks also showed that the victim knew one of the suspect," he said.
Cha said police will obtain a remand order against all suspects at the magistrate's court in Klang tomorrow.
He also called the people with information on the missing person to contact the Klang police headquarters at 03-33762222 or visit the nearest police stations.
It was reported that Madrafataha was reported missing after her mother asked her to retrieve food from a car parked at their flat in Bukit Tinggi, Klang.
She was last seen leaving the house, wearing a green t-shirt and black track bottoms.
The police report on her disappearance was lodged by her mother at 8.59pm on the same day she went missing.
