PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has announced a nationwide Special Motorcycle Operation from Nov 1 to Dec 31.
The operation is aimed at tackling offences among motorcycle riders and owners and is intended to reinforce compliance with the Road Transport Act 1987 and related regulations.
In a statement, the RTD said there were rising concerns due to the increasing rate of fatal accidents involving motorcycles.
"Motorcycles account for 1,908 or 70 per cent of these fatal cases," it revealed, citing police data.
The RTD has outlined eight major offences that will be the primary focus during the operation, including driving without a licence, expired vehicle licences, and lack of insurance coverage.
Additional targets include running red lights, extreme vehicle modifications, failure to wear helmets, illegal racing, and other technical violations.
"This effort aligns with the Malaysian Road Safety Plan (PKJRM) to reduce road accidents and fatalities," the RTD said, adding that the campaign is committed to ensuring public safety.
Members of the public are encouraged to report violations via the MyJPJ App's e-Aduan@JPJ feature or through email at aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my, providing complete details.
