SUNGAI PETANI: A man who robbed a 68-year-old woman at knifepoint in her Bandar Puteri Jaya home was arrested less than 24 hours after committing the crime.
Kuala Muda police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the man, 36, was arrested in Penang.
He said the incident happened on Sunday night, when the victim, who was in her room, heard sounds coming from her hall.
"The victim came out of the room to find a man in the hall. He told her to be quiet," Wan Azharuddin said in a statement.
"The suspect was armed with a knife and a steel rod. He pressed the knife against her throat and led her to her bedroom."
The suspect then went through her belongings, looking for cash. He made off with the victim's bracelet and a ring.
The victim lodged a police report just after midnight.
At 4pm yesterday, Tasek Gelugor police arrested the suspect and seized a bracelet.
The suspect, who has 22 criminal records, confessed to the robbery.
The case is being probed under section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery.
