Daycare worker arrested over alleged abuse of baby in Puncak Alam

KUALA LUMPUR: A 24-year-old daycare worker has been arrested to assist police investigations into a baby abuse case where the infant was allegedly pinched, leaving visible bruises on the child's face and ear.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the woman was arrested following a report lodged by the baby boy's father on Saturday.

The father claimed that on Dec 13, around 6.15pm, his wife had picked up their 11-month-old son from a daycare centre in Puncak Alam and noticed bruises on the baby's right cheek and ear.

"When questioned, a caretaker at the daycare initially said the bruises were caused by the baby falling from a table.

"However, later that evening, the daycare supervisor contacted the parents, admitting that the injuries were caused by a staff member.

"The parents took the baby to Sungai Buloh Hospital for further examination and lodged a police report," he said in a statement.

Acting on the report, Hafiz said the district's Criminal Investigation Department detained the suspect at the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters at 6.50pm on Dec 14.

"The suspect has been remanded until Dec 18 to assist in the investigation," he said.
