MUAR: Two men have been charged after leading police on a high-speed chase from Jalan Bakri to Kuala Lumpur in a Toyota Hilux.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhlis Azman Aziz confirmed that the suspects were charged at the Muar magistrate's court under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for obstructing a public servant and consuming dangerous drugs, respectively.
"The suspects were fined RM3,000 or six months' imprisonment for obstruction, and RM5,000 or two years' imprisonment for drug consumption," he said in a statement today.
The high-speed chase, which occurred on Nov 20, spanned 180km, starting in Muar and ending at Jalan Chan Sow Lin in Kuala Lumpur.
Police arrested six men aged between 25 and 35 on Nov 21, after they were apprehended in Damansara.
The pursuit began when the suspects' Toyota Hilux ran a red light and ignored police orders to stop.
The vehicle rammed a toll barrier at Jasin toll plaza before continuing to the Sungai Besi toll and crashing through a road barrier at Jalan Chan Sow Lin.
