KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for the driver of a dark four-wheel-drive vehicle who led them on a 180km high-speed chase from Muar, Johor, to Jalan Chan Sow Lin here.
Muar police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the incident began at around 2.45am yesterday.
"A police patrol car from the Muar police headquarters spotted the vehicle beating the red light at an intersection in Jalan Bakri and attempted to stop it.
"Police made a number of attempts to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to cooperate and sped off," he said in a statement on Thursday.
He said police chased the vehicle all the way to Kuala Lumpur with assistance from Melaka police, Bukit Aman headquarters and the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department.
"The suspect managed to outrun the police vehicles by manoeuvring up a steep slope and driving into opposing traffic along Jalan Chan Sow Lin in Kuala Lumpur.
"We are currently working on tracking down the driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle," he said, adding that investigations were conducted for obstructing a civil servant from dispensing his duties, besides dangerous and reckless driving.
He also urged anyone who witnessed the incident or had information on the case to come forward immediately.
