SHAH ALAM: Police are searching for a man caught on video stealing a mobile phone from a shop.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident took place at a mobile phone store in Taman Sri Muda, Section 25.
"We received a report from the premise owner, a 41-year-old man, that the incident occurred at around 10.56pm on Dec 4.
"He claimed thay an unknown man who posed as a customer had stolen an Infinix brand mobile phone," he said in a statement today.
He said the suspect came into the shop under the pretense of buying the device and wanted to view it.
"One of the shop workers took out the box containing the device and was about to reach for a cutter to open it when the suspect grabbed it and ran off.
"Our investigations revealed the suspect fled on a motorcycle with an accomplice who was waiting outside," he said.
Mohd Iqbal said the shop owner incurred RM599 in losses due to the incident.
"We are working on tracking down the suspects," he said adding that the case has been classified as theft under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
