LANGKAWI: A drug trafficking case involving Thai national Wirasak Tialek, 41, has been transferred from the magistrate's court here to the Alor Star High Court.
Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal approved the transfer following an application submitted by Customs Department prosecuting officer Akmar Naqhi Jasmin during today's proceedings.
In the same proceedings, the magistrate allowed the prosecution to read an amended charge against the accused based on the chemical analysis report received.
The court also granted the prosecution's application to transfer the accused's temporary detention from the Perlis Correctional Centre to Alor Star Prison.
According to the charge, Wirasak is accused of trafficking 176.8g of methamphetamine at the Kuah Jetty passengers ferry terminal here, between 2.30pm and 2.40pm on March 6.
The charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act.
The accused was unrepresented.
On May 19, Wirasak was charged in the Langkawi Sessions Court with smuggling methamphetamine pills.
