Father recounts watching disturbing footage of baby found unconscious at daycare

ALOR GAJAH: The father of the eight-month-old baby boy who was found unconscious at a daycare centre in Kelemak recounts what unfolded in closed-circuit television footage.

"The babysitter swaddled my baby, forced a milk bottle into his mouth, covered him with cloth, and pressed a pillow against his face.

"That's something I just can't accept," said Major Mohd Fikry Amri Abd Halim.

Fikry said at first, he could accept that his only child might have choked on milk because such incidents are unexpected.

"I was shocked (when informed), but initially, I could accept it if he had passed away due to choking, as it is beyond our control, and we wouldn't know.

"But after watching the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, I couldn't believe it.

"I watched it with the police. Based on the footage, the incident happened around 8am," he said when met at the Forensic Unit of Alor Gajah Hospital tonight.

He said he learned about the incident at 9am after receiving a phone call that his baby had turned blue and blood was coming out of his mouth.

His wife, upon arriving at the daycare, found the baby unconscious, he said.

"My wife immediately rushed our baby to Alor Gajah Hospital, even though the daycare had suggested taking him to a health clinic.

"However, upon arriving at the hospital, our baby was pronounced dead," he said.

Fikry, who works at Kem Perdana, Sungai Besi, said that his baby had only been sent to the daycare for five days, as his wife was due to return to work soon after taking nearly a year of unpaid leave.

"We waited 13 years to be blessed with a child, and after just five days at daycare, we never expected this to happen."
