Three Indonesians held over woman, infant deaths in Kulai

KULAI: Three Indonesians including a woman have been arrested in connection with the discovery of the bodies of a woman and her infant by the roadside in Taman Impiana Kelapa Sawit here.

District police chief, Assistant Commisioner Tan Seng Lee said the Indonesians were arrested in separate locations in Johor Baru and Kulai, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm yesterday.

The trio, aged between 42 and 53, were remanded for three days to facilitate investigations under Section 316 of the Penal Code, for causing the death of an unborn child, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

Police also seized four mobile phones, a car, a mattress, and a mat believed to be linked to the case.

It is learnt that investigations are also narrowing on the possibility that the woman died due to birth complications, and the bodies were dumped by the roadside along Jalan Impiana 5, here.

The victim and the infant was found dead on the roadside on Dec 7, after a passer-by stumbled upon the bodies on the way to work that morning.

Police found the woman lying on the ground next to the baby boy, with its umbilical cord still attached.
