IPOH: Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel caught two King cobras, measuring six metres and five metres respectively, at two locations near Kampar, south of here.
Kampar APM officer Capt (PA) Jasri Mohd Yusof said the six-metre snake, weighing nine kilogrammes, was caught at 11.15am yesterday following an alert sent by residents of the Batu Berangkai Orang Asli Settlement.
"The residents reported having seen the snake crossing a road in the village and heading to a rocky area.
“We were informed that for three days after spotting the snake, the villagers were constantly on the alert," he said.
Four APM personnel sent to the location took about 20 minutes to catch the reptile because it had turned aggressive.
Jasri said it was the longest King cobra caught in that district, and it will be handed over to the Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department.
The other snake was caught in the storeroom of the Kampung Batu 20 surau at about 3.30pm last Friday, after a surau committee member said he heard a hissing sound in a box when cleaning the store.
"Four APM personnel who rushed to the location caught the snake," Jasri added. -- BERNAMA
