KUALA LUMPUR: The remains of a Malaysian medical student, Soh Zhi Min, will be repatriated back home for burial.
The University of Edinburgh undergraduate was killed in Edinburgh, Scotland after she was hit by a minibus on May 31.
The Higher Education Ministry said in a statement today that they have informed Soh's family of the incident.
The ministry said efforts are being undertaken to bring back the remains by the Education Malaysia, Malaysian High Commission, Public Service Department, police, hospital and University of Edinburgh.
The ministry also advised students who are studying abroad to be cautious, prioritise safety and comply with regulations particularly when driving and managing their daily movements.
It was reported that Soh's bicycle wheel got caught in a tram track before she fell into the vehicle's path and was hit by a tourist bus on Wednesday morning.
The 23-year-old, who was a fourth-year medical student and Public Service Department (JPA) scholar was rushed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Hospital for treatment but died soon after due to severe injuries sustained.
