KUCHING: Three young children infected with the rabies virus remain in critical condition at the Sarawak General Hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) here.
Sarawak Health director Dr Jamilah Hashim said a health team from the department was deployed to the victims’ villages in Serian on Thursday to carry out active case detection.
She stressed that the department has not received any report of new cases.
“The team is going from house to house to detect any case of dog bites, while the Veterinary Department is dealing with dog control,” Dr Jamilah added.
The Health Ministry on Friday confirmed that three children, from Kampung Paon Sungai Rimu Bakung and Kampung Lebur, Gedong in Serian had been infected with rabies.
Two of the children – a 4-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl – are siblings, while the third victim is a 7-year-old girl from a different village. – BERNAMA
