Najib wants Umno division heads to address specific needs of civil servants

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak wants party division chiefs to listen and provide unique solutions to the variety of issues faced by different segments of civil servants nationwide, an Umno senior leader said today.

Pahang Umno deputy liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin said Najib had reminded the division chiefs during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri dinner at Seri Perdana last night, that there were 1.6 million civil servants nationwide facing specific problems based on their respective fields.

“The prime minister reminded us to always listen to their problems and provide specific solutions to each of them. For example, issues relating to the transfers of teachers.

“I believe he wants us to be systematic, segmentise, and micro-manage several matters and look deeper into helping people at the grassroots level,” said Sharkar who is also Temerloh Umno division chief, when contacted.

Sharkar said Najib told division chiefs to work hard in the upcoming general election and preserve the seats won during the 13th general election.

“Najib told us to put aside differences, there is no need for grudges with one another and help maintain the Barisan Nasional’s 134 seats in at the parliament.

“He wants the division chiefs to work closely with our deputies.”

At the dinner, Najib also said Umno leaders must go all out to render assistance to the people regardless of racial background.

“We must extend our help to all Malaysians, whether they are Chinese and Indians. We need to listen to the people’s needs.”

Sharkar also denied a news portal report claiming that Najib had “confidently” told the division leaders that he had “regained the support of 1.6 million civil servants.”

“That portal got it wrong. Najib did not mention anything about regaining support of the civil servants. He had only said about the need to listen to them and micro-manage the different segments of civil servants.”

Sharkar also said the dinner was not a “special meeting” ahead of the general election as claimed by certain quarters.

“It was just a Hari Raya do (for Umno division chiefs), that has been held annually at his official residence for two to three years now.”
