GENTING HIGHLANDS: Hotel workers and guests in this hillside resort were shocked early today when they heard the loud sound of a huge object crashing to the ground.
They were even more shocked when they found that a car had crashed through the barrier of the hotel’s multi-storey parking lot, landing on its top in a nearby mini recreational park.
Sadly, they found two people dead in the Perodua Axia after it plunged 13m from the fourth floor of the parking lot.
Businessman V. Palanisamy, 50, and 43-year-old Ming Sanmao from China, were killed on the spot during the 4.15am incident.
Checks revealed that, besides the hotel staff, several people heard the noise, though it was lucky that at that time of the morning, no one was in the spot where the car landed.
A hotel employee said several people heard the loud noise and immediately ran to provide help but the victims.
“The car landed beside the multi-storey parking exit below and this area is usually crowded during the daytime,” she said.
Bentong police chief Superintendent Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor said investigations revealed the victims were about to leave the parking complex.
He said Palanisamy, from Sepang in Selangor, who was behind the wheel was believed to have failed to control the vehicle while making a turn.
Mansor said the vehicle smashed through the steel barrier before plunging to the ground.
He said both the bodies were taken to Bentong Hospital for post-mortem examination.
