GEORGE TOWN: A man, who dozed off behind the wheels of his Perodua Bezza, crashed head-on into four vehicles, including a motorcycle, at a traffic light junction here yesterday.
Apart from the Bangladeshi motorcyclist who suffered minor injuries, the drivers of the four other vehicles, including the 23-year-old Perodua Bezza driver, escaped unhurt in the 11.45am incident at the Jalan Kelawei-Jalan Tanjung Tokong traffic light junction.
The other three vehicles included a Proton Perdana, driven by a 55-year-old man; a Hyundai Elantra, driven a by 23-year-old Swiss tourist; and a van.
Several photos of the incident have since made its way into social media.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said investigations showed the Perodua Bezza driver, who was driving towards Jalan Tanjung Tokong from Jalan Kelawei, is believed to have dozed off, causing his car to skid and enter into the opposite lane.
“The driver then crashed into the other vehicles waiting at the traffic light junction.
“Investigations are ongoing to identify other witnesses still at large," he said.
Anuar said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
