KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rain in the city this evening triggered flash flooding in Jalan Kuching here which led to a massive crawl leading up to the area.
A 37-second video has been uploaded on social media platforms, showing parts of Jalan Kuching submerged with water fast rising on both sides of the four-lane highway.
Some vehicles have stopped as these drivers made the decision to wait for the water to subside, while a smaller number of vehicles have attempted to cross the flooded area.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman confirmed that Jalan Kuching has been flooded at about 6pm today.
“The river close to that stretch of the road, Sungai Batu, has overflowed after an hour-long thunderstorm this evening.
“A rescue team was deployed to the scene but the water had subsided by then,” he said.
The team remained to help ensure that traffic returned to normal.
A City Hall’s Integrated Transportation Information System spokesman when contacted said the heavy rain in the evening had caused traffic disruptions in several parts of the city.
“Traffic was heavy along roads to and from Jalan Kuching, Selayang market to the city centre and the Segambut roundabout,” he said.
As of 7pm, he said the traffic situation has improved.
