KUCHING: The wife of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib, has taken to social media to convey her condolences to the family of the late Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

Ragad, on her Instagram account, posted a picture of her and her husband, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, together with Sultan Abdul Halim and the Sultanah of Kedah, Sultanah Hajah Haminah.

In the post, the wife of the Head of the State said she and her husband were deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden passing of Sultan Abdul Halim.

“We convey our heartfelt condolences to the Sultan’s family and our sincere feeling of empathy to the people of Kedah.

“Our thoughts are with you Sultanah Haminah of Kedah, (the) Kedah Royal family and the people of Kedah in this period of bereavement,” she said.

She described the late Sultan as the “people’s ruler” whose commitment touched the hearts of the people.

“He was devoted and generous in his support (for) the environment, arts, music and sports, especially football.

“His care and concern towards the less fortunate also touched the hearts of all Malaysians,” she said.

Sultan Abdul Halim passed away at Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Setar, Kedah at 2.30pm yesterday. He was 89.

Meanwhile, a spokesman said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg and his wife Datin Patinggi Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang will be flying to Kedah this morning to pay their last respects to the late king.
