NST journalist mowed down by patrol car

KUALA LUMPUR: A New Straits Times journalist was injured when a police patrol car in hot pursuit of another car accidently rammed into his motorcycle.

The accident happened near the Sunway toll plaza at the New Pantai Expressway about 3pm.

Fernando Fong Kee Soon had just exited the motorcycle lane when the patrol car hit him.

The 37-year old was flung off his motorcycle suffered serious abrasions on his face and body.

The policemen immediately abandoned the chase and stopped to assist Fong before calling for an ambulance.

He is currently receiving treatment at the yellow zone (semi critical unit) of the University Malaya Medical Centre.

Fong was on his way to the NST head office in Jalan Riong, Bangsar when the accident happened.

Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Ali Thamby confirmed the incident.

He said the patrol car was assisting another patrol car pursuing a vehicle when the accident happened.
