KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was released on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail this morning.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus granted RM100,000 bail with RM80,000 deposited and two local sureties.
He was remanded for eight days in an MACC jail to facilitate investigations into the mishandling of federal funds for state rural projects.
The Semporna Member of Parliament had earlier arrived at the magistrate’s court here at 9.25am dressed in a white shirt and black pants.
His orange t-shirt-clad supporters, who were gathered outside court, shouted "Bebas Shafie!” (Release Shafie) as he alighted from a police car.
His wife Datin Seri Shuryani Shuaib and relatives, who were present, recited prayers after Shafie entered the court.
Shafie and his counsels, led by Martin Tommy, re-emerged at out around 9.40am.
Prosecuting officer Mohd Faliq Basirudin appeared for the MACC.
As of now, there is no word as to whether Shafie will return to Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, the party’s vice-president Junz Wong said they have collected RM101,529.50 as of 9am from a two-day crowdfunding campaign to raise Shafie's bail.
"The balance of the collection will be used in legal processes for Shafie in future," he added.
