KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has urged all government agencies and party's machinery to focus on relief efforts for the people affected by the floods in Penang.
In a post on his Twitter account today, he also urged all quarters to stop politicising the floods situation.
"I want all parties to stop politicising the Penang floods. The focus now is to help the people.
"All government agencies and party's machinery should join in the efforts to assist the people," he said.
A continuous downpour that lasted for about 17 hours, coupled with gale-force winds since noon on Saturday, had led to severe and widespread flooding in George Town and Seberang Prai.
It was reported that the floods occurred due to the higher-than-average rainfall and Typhoon Damrey, which currently hit Vietnam.
